As a well known quote, I’m sure we have all heard this phrase. It’s a classic, sentimental, and deep. However, in our busy lives it can be looked over.
“As corny as it sounds, to me, home is where the heart is… So moving houses is just another way in which I get to experience life.”– Ellen DeGeneres
Such a fresh perspective! And I would add, moving to a new house is a fresh new canvas in which to design a beautiful space.
Did you have this quote, “Home is where the heart is.” on the wall in your childhood home? I did. Growing up in the 80’s, I would pass by it’s corn blue embroidery stitched letters and rose floral details on the cream cotton fabric, and read it every time. It gave me a sense of warmth and security. And I knew someone made it with love by hand, and I remember as a child thinking “it’s pretty.”
I appreciate now, as an adult, that I was fortunate to have a warm, loving house to grow up in. And I also realize that not everyone was as lucky. For example, Maya Angelou, one of my favorite authors and orators, was not as fortunate to experience a childhood as I did. Her take on home is encouraging and links back to the main quote of the blog.
“You can never go home again, but the truth is you can never leave home, so it’s all right.”-Maya Angelou

Home Quotes to bring Gratitude
This blog post is prompted by #bloganuary through the WordPress community. And, although I am late to the challenge, I feel a sense to practice my writing everyday while hoping to inspire you and bring some warmth to your day. Better late than never they say.
For most, home is a place to feel welcomed, unconditionally loved, and safe.
For others childhood, home was not comforting, but as Maya put it so eloquently, you don’t need your childhood home to bring you love, safety and peace. Home is where the heart is. And if that’s true then your heart is within you always. You can create a new safe space, a new home for you and your children and grandchildren. No matter what place you are in your life’s journey, it’s never too late to start.
“Home is a shelter from storms – all sorts of storms.”– William J. Bennett
“The light is what guides you home, the warmth is what keeps you there.”-Ellie Rodriguez
“Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam, be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home.”-John Howard Payne
Which is your favorite quote?
A home is where you can rest, rejuvenate, and heal from the stressors of the outside world. It provides an environment of relaxation and protection against rain, snow, hail and wind gusts.
Home is where you can smell the sweet and savory smells of a hearty home cooked meal. As you step in and smell the mouth-watering aroma of a pot roast and freshly baked bread, it stirs the appetite and restores your fortitude.
Home is where we grow our families, and keep them safe. Where you chart their height, take their photos, store their memories, stay up late nights soothing them back to sleep, and laughing with them until your eyes water and cheeks ache.
A good home is one that is clutter free, providing peace of mind, proper health and well being. If you are fortunate, it is a place of freedom and no judgement, where you can practice and learn from your experiments.
“Home is where the heart can laugh without shyness. Home is where the heart’s tears can dry at their own pace.”Vernon Baker
Home is even a place where you can process trauma, grief and frustrations that are a natural part of the human experience. The walls will listen, the world will wait, and the loved ones inside will hold you while your tears flood out.
Hosting family and friends in your home, for some, can be stressful if you have the mindset that it all needs to look perfect.
“I think that when you invite people to your home, you invite them to yourself.”-Oprah Winfrey
What I have learned is that as long as you make the effort to do your best, and show up being present with love, all details will fall into place. Incidentally, preceding day meal and decor prep can practically aid in this running smoothly. The true gift of being hospitable is sharing your safe space and your time with your guests. The beautiful table setting, delicious meal, and delectable cheese board are just the icing on the cake.
That concludes today’s #bloguary post of What is your favorite quote? ……
